Ms.
Joanne Liew has always throughout her artistic endeavors, aspired
interests in music, art, and painting. She received an educational degree
in Fashion Design in Singapore. Subsequently Bachelor of Fine Arts degree
in the United States.
Born in Malaysia, Ms. Joanne Liew began studying
the Zheng in Singapore in 1975. From 1977 to 1983, Ms. Liew trained under
two renowned Zheng Masters Jin-Liang and Liang-Rong Ouyang, where she
mastered different styles of Zheng. In 1985, Ms. Liew emigrated to the
United States and began teaching the Zheng in Georgia, followed by the
opening of Joanne¡¦s Zheng Studio. To date, Ms. Liew continues to train
numerous students in mastering and appreciating the fine art of the Zheng.
In 1995, Ms. Liew released her first two Zheng solo
albums on cassette tapes. In 2000, two CDs followed, namely ¡§Chinese
Classical Compositions¡¨, and ¡§Chinese Classical Solos, Zheng Solo by
Joanne Liew¡¨. Ms. Liew¡¦s musical pieces were featured in Atlanta
WSB-TV2¡¦s program, ¡§Georgia¡¦s Panda Project¡¨ which aired on
October 31, 1999. In addition, her ¡§Chinese Classical Solos¡¨
highlights the Giant Panda Exhibit at Zoo Atlanta. In addition to
Joanne¡¦s Zheng Studio, Ms. Liew also heads the Chinese Classical
Orchestra, the first of its kind in the southeastern United States. Ms.
Liew has given over four hundred performances and continues to share her
love and knowledge of the Zheng, doing her part in musical cultural
